Curriculum

International Campus

We have been developing into an international campus with about 40% of our student body being various non-Chinese students. They are supported with a rich language environment and enrichment courses to attain trilingual proficiency. Alongside this, we merge Eastern and Western cultures through a school-based Chinese Speaking students. English is used as a medium of instruction in teaching the language barriers in learning. Moreover, e-Learning is also introduced to students at various levels.

Since 2008, the EDB’s School based Support Services programme team has cooperated with our school to develop our School based Chinese Curriculum for NCS students. This programme assists teachers in lesson planning and evaluation. The main focus of the programme is to cater to students learning Chinese as a foreign, second or near native language. The curriculum provides opportunities for students to learn at an appropriate pace while being challenged to be their best.

The Space Town Literacy Programme for KS1 (Space Town)

To optimize the learning teaching and the development of the curriculum, the school has implemented The Space Town Literacy Programme for KS1 (Space Town), which is organized by Net Section ,EDB. It is mainly taught by Mrs. Ram. In addition to enhancing students' interest in reading, the programme also develops students' reading strategies, e-learning and enriches students' writing experience and skills. The other four lessons are taught by the English teachers in the classroom with the authentic activities.

Primary one to three students have four English lessons per week in the English room, where students are taught by the Net, English subject teacher and a teaching assistant in a class, which can effectively take care of students' learning differences. Students learn English from different activities such as storytelling, role playing, singing, and phonics games. It allows students to learn English in a relaxed environment.

E-Learning

Learning English and Mathematics through E-learning was introduced to Primary 4 students in 2014/15 through the ‘Bring Your Own Device’ programme. As of now, e-learning has been extended to primary 5 and 6 in learning Chinese, English, Mathematics, General Studies and Music. Primary 1-3 students are also taught occasionally to use e-learning platforms in different subjects.

E-learning not only enhances the interaction between students and teachers, but also broadens students’ horizons and the ability of communication, collaboration and construct knowledge. Besides, it enhances student-centered learning approach which has a positive impact in students’ learning interest and effectiveness. Students become more independent learners which cultivates life-long learning and learning to learn capability.

In 2016/17, our school had the honour of being ‘The Education Centre of Excellence in IT’.

Cross-subject projects

In order to make learning more effective for our students into interdisciplinary learning topics and collaborate with students’ interests through reading, observing, exploring, experimenting, discussing, interviewing and drama, to enhance the effectiveness of learning and to give students more opportunities to take the initiative to explore.

By using the method of ‘experiential learning’, students can cultivate the correct attitude of seeking knowledge through experience, effectively developing the potential of students and achieving the goal of pleasant learning.

Project Based Learning

Students in all classes have hands-on experience with different themes by way of projects. In these activities, teachers lead the students to make first-hand exploration with a given topic and allow students to come up with a solution, thereby making learning more effective.

Reading is Fun

The school library promotes reading interest among students through ‘Reading is Fun.’ The librarian organizes a wide range of reading activities that cultivates self-learning ability among students. Our aim is to bring about a reading culture among our students.

Library lessons:

Students from J1 to J5 have a library lesson once a fortnight. Students are guided to choose the right books based on their interests. Students from the junior levels listen to stories told by the librarians whereas students from senior levels are motivated to be story tellers which helps them to speak with confidence.

Buddy Reading Scheme:

Students from year 5 and 6 are trained to be story tellers to the little ones. Senior students are taught different ways to handle the junior students with care. Students are given a wonderful opportunity to interact patiently with the students of lower levels.

Other Activities:

Students have the choice of improving their reading ability through various ways. The school library subscribes newspapers and magazines for students to read. The ‘Good Book Exchange Programme’ allows students to exchange their used books with others. Students are also taken on visits to the public library and the book exhibitions.
